Horses taught me 2 powerful lessons when horseback riding back in the 7th grade with my girl scout troop. Taking English riding lessons for several months are some of my happiest memories.
The horses were beautiful. We would ride in the ring. First we learned walking, then trotting and finally cantering around the ring. When I was on the horse I felt POWERFUL, FREE, and that I shared something with him/her. I would always pat the horse, let him see me and made a connection before getting into the saddle. When we worked together I would talk to him, pat him and use my knees to stir him.
Sometimes he responded easily, other times he had his own ideas about what to do! I had to REALLY use my leg muscles and steer him in circles to get his attention. This taught me PATIENCE and NOT TO GIVE UP even if someone or something was bigger than me. You see if you were persistent and held your ground eventually the horse would do as you asked. Sometimes I felt like the horse was testing me to see what I would allow them to get away with. This was great practice for the years of babysitting I did during my teens!
The horses were quite large for a 13-year-old, but I was never afraid of them. After riding we had to take off the saddle and groom the horse. Standing beside him, reaching up high to brush his back, really made me appreciate his size. We cleaned the hoofs and I always thought how gentle these creatures are since one kick could send me flying but they chose not to do that. I always feel happy and calm when I am around horses.
Now I finally think I know why that is. A horse’s energy field is very large; it can fill the entire arena. A happy and confident horse radiates that out to others. The connection I felt to the horse was our energy fields intermingling. To this day I still LOVE being around horses. They are gentle and wise and are able to teach us lessons if we choose to pay attention. Now I give horses that are stressed healing touch treatments!
Do you need a boost in your energy field? Do you want to tap into feelings of power, confidence and joy? I can help you do that! Give me a call or click here and let’s talk about what you are looking for!
Hi Laurie. I love horses and have always wanted to works with them. I will be doing acupressure with a horse in Forestville on July 11 after a learning session to explain how. I’ve always been intimidated by horses because of their size, so I’m hoping this experience will change that belief So nice to gearbox your experiences with these gentle, gorgeous animals.
Yes they are wonderful to work with Sylvia. One tip I have is I always feel better when I go to their head and let them see me and I pat them and talk to them. If you are with a calm horse that energy will help you feel calm too!
Thanks for sharing Laurie. I’m reminded of our adventures with horses a couple of years ago and how EXCITED you were throughout the experience! Maybe you should get back to some occasional riding!
