On a whale watching tour in Hawaii I was blown away by the beauty, grace and size of the humpback whales. We had whales 100 yards out breeching (coming up and out of the water), slapping the water with their pectoral fin and just plain showing off –it was AWESOME! The guide placed a microphone into the sea at one point so we could hear the whales singing. The whale will position itself upside down at a 45 degree angle and “sing”. The sound is beautiful and haunting. No one understands the meaning of this communication yet. The behavior that is documented is a whale sings, another comes up and then they go their separate ways. The whale that approached the singing one then continues on to another singer, disrupting that song and the whales’ part. After studying the vocalizing and behavior of the whales for over 20 years we still do not know what it means.
I feel like our bodies are the same way. We understand a great deal about them yet when we have pain we do not always understand what it is trying to communicate to us. That chronic back pain you are experiencing can have a physical cause but the emotional disconnect of doing a job you hate or not being your true self with others can intensify it or make it continue even if the physical cause is corrected. Don’t wait 1, 5 or 10 years before discovering what your body is telling you. I invite you to work with me to learn what your body is communicating to you so you can heal.
