tea treeThe power of tea tree (Melalecua alternifolia) oil is its ability to kill and inhibit the growth of bacteria, viruses, fungus, parasites and reduce inflammation.

When I feel a cold coming on I often use Dr. P´enoёl’s advice on how to stop it in its tracks.

In his book,  Natural Home Health Care Using Essential Oils, Dr. Daniel P´enoёl suggests at the first sign of a cold (tickle in the throat) put one drop of oil on your tongue or put one drop in ½ teaspoon blue agave or rice milk every 5 – 10 minutes for 5 – 10 times. It should stop the cold from developing. I have used this method many times with great success.

If you do not want to take it internally you can diffuse it in a cold-air diffuser. You can also dilute 1 part essential oil to 1 part carrier oil (pure vegetable oil or olive oil) and apply 2 – 4 drops on throat or chest several times a day.

The above methods are effective in boosting your immune system if you have already developed a cold as well. Many of my clients feel it has shortened the duration of the cold significantly.

Other Uses:

  • Air freshener – place 4 drops in one cup distilled or purified water in a spray bottle, shake before each use
  • Disinfectant — place 10 – 12 drops in 32 oz distilled or purified water in a spray bottle, shake before each use
  • Skin conditions such as acne and sores
