Picture Blog 4-16 Stress AwayI can teach you how to relax in a minute with medicinal aromatherapy! That’s right, aromas bypass the conscious mind and go straight to the emotional store house in your brain (the amygdala). When you inhale an aroma that is associated with a positive experience that memory pops into your head and your body reacts as if you are having that experience. It stimulants your parasympathetic nervous system which lowers your heart rate and releases endorphins and other feel good hormones. Now I am not saying you will go from a screaming maniac to bliss and total relaxation however you will feel calmer and be able to focus better so you can deal with the situation easier.

Let me share a story with you about how the oil blends of Peace and Calming and Stress-Away have helped me in a stressful situation. The last position I held as a western medicine nurse was in the emergency room at a local hospital. Many of the nurses on the day shift used oils. There was one doctor in particular that would stress out the nurses because she would try to micro-manage us along with doing her job. She would disturb our workflow and create chaos. So a couple of hours into the shift I would feel myself becoming more and more irritable, my neck muscles would tighten and I wanted to yell at the physician. That is when I would go to my locker pull out my Stress-Away or Peace and Calming oil,apply it topically and breathe it in deeply for several breaths. In a matter of 1-2 minutes I could feel my muscles start to relax, my mind was calmer and I could calmly talk with her. Sometimes I had to do that several times in a shift! The oils improved my health by stopping the stress response so I felt calmer. I was able to focus better and I no longer had the desire to yell at the doctor.

If you work in a fragrance free environment you can put a drop on your big toe (acupressure point for brain) then apply shoes and socks so no one will smell it. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a way to quickly relax no matter where you were or what you were doing? I always carry Stress-Away in my purse so I can use it anytime and anywhere.
